ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION This invention discloses a method for requesting service by a device coupled to a host computer through a communication medium. The method comprises monitoring a command from the host computer, generating a service request signal on the medium after the command, and repeating the steps until the device receives a command which services the device. This is an efficient method for providing a means for peripheral devices to indicate a need for servicing to the host computer.
