ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for selectively treating permeable strata in a subterranean formation which is penetrated by a well. In particular, a first fluid is injected into the well to a location which is adjacent to a first permeable stratum at a rate which is greater than the flow rate for the first fluid into the first permeable stratum. Simultaneously, a second fluid is injected into the well to a location which is adjacent to a second permeable stratum at a rate which is less than the flow rate for the second fluid into the second permeable stratum. The second fluid is adapted to treat the second permeable stratum. This method provides an economical technique for selectively treating the first permeable stratum while treatment of the first permeable stratum is avoided.
