There is described a method for separating by a comb filter technique luminance and chrominance signals from a composite video signal in NTSC format, which comprises switching over from working with three line signals to working with two line signals when a picture content change occurs in the succeeding picture line. The method may also be applied to a composite video signal in PAL format when using two-line time delay lines.
