METHOD FOR SEPARATION OF DIASTEREOISOMERIC 3-(3,4-DIBENZYLOXYPHENYL)SERINE Abstract of the Disclosure A method of separating diastereoisomeric 3-(3,4- dibenzyloxyphenyl)serine is disclosed. The method comprises reacting a mixture of the threo isomer and the erythro isomer of 3-(3,4-dibenzyloxyphenyl)serine with a mineral acid and separating the resulting mineral acid salts of the threo isomer and the erythro isomer by a conventional fractional crystalliza- tion utilizing the difference in solubility of the mineral acid salts. The separated mineral acid salts may optionally be converted into the free isomers. The 3-(3,4-dibenzyloxyphenyl)- serine or the mineral acid salts thereof thus separated can give 3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)serine by removing the benzyl group therefrom and which is a precursor of norepinephrine which has activities in the circulatory system or psychotropic activities.
