Abstract In order to adjust the working point of a web movement control device beyond the measuring range of the sensor, a threshold is preset in the electronic signal processing device inside the measuring range of the sensor, the web movement control being switched off when the working point reaches the said threshold during the adjustment of the working point and an edge search process of the sensor being triggered in order to align the sensor with the changed position of the edge of the web, after which the web movement control is switched on again and this process is repeated until the desired working point displacement is achieved.
