A method of signaling and negotiation between a client and a server in a multimedia streaming service regarding the adaptation of the data delivery process. In order to make sure that the client supports the adaptation mechanisms or capabilities to be used in data delivery, one of the parties provides information indicating the adaptation mechanism or capability that it supports to the other party. Upon receiving the information, the other party uses well-defined RTSP response to indicate the support of that mechanism or capability. Either the server or the client can initiate the negotiation. The implementation of the signaling and negotiation covers an AVPF usage, RTP Retransmission Playload Format usage, and an SPTP usage in a particular 3G PSS session.

L'invention se rapporte à un procédé de signalisation et de négociation entre un client et un serveur dans un dispositif de diffusion multimédia concernant l'adaptation du processus de distribution des données. Afin de certifier que le client accepte les mécanismes d'adaptation ou les capacités à utiliser dans la distribution de donnés, une des parties envoie des informations indiquant le mécanisme d'adaptation accepté ou les capacités acceptées à l'autre partie. Après réception des informations, l'autre partie utilise une réponse RTSP bien définie afin d'indiquer l'acceptation du mécanisme ou de la capacité. Le serveur ou le client peut lancer la négociation. La mise en oeuvre de la signalisation et de la négociation englobe les mécanismes suivants: AVPF, format de charge utile de retransmission RTP, et un SPTP dans une session 3G PSS particulière.
