A B S T R A C T Described is a method enabling forest seeds to be sown directly in the humus layer. According to the method the humus material is compacted locally and lastingly at the positions in which seeds are to be sown. This is obtained by pressing down a funnel-shaped shield into the humus layer with its narrowest end downwards and leaving said shield in each and every one of the said positions. The seeds are then sown on the compacted material in the lower opening of the funnel.
