ABSTRACT A method for stabilizing a superconductor of the type having at least one core which is entirely or partly of an intermetallic superconduct- ive compound and which is provided with a sheath of an alloy which contains an electrically normal conducting metal and an element of the compound, in which the element of the compound contained in the sheath is removed from the sheath, at least partially, by a chemical transport reaction to obtain electrical stabilization of the superconductor.
