ABSTRACT A method for treating the sludge from industrial wastewater streams which contain soluble metals by adding to the sludge an effective amount of a metal complexing agent sufficient to inhibit leaching of the metal from the sludge solids into the environment. The metal complexing agents comprise diethylcar- bamate, dimethyldithiocarbamate, sodium trithiocarbonate the salts thereof or tolytriazole.
