ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE : A method for steelmaking with direct current, in which the melting is carried out in the arc furnace by an electric arc burning between movable contact cathodes and iron material to be melted, the material being connected to movable contact anodes, wherein, after the movable anodes attain the slag formed, the further burning of the electric arc between the mol- ten metal and the movable cathodes is effected so, that the working ends of the movable anodes remain immersed into the slag.
