The invention relates to a method for steering an agricultural machine and to an agricultural machine. Especially when treating rows of crops (14, 15) it is important that, for the cultivation operation concerned, a differentiation is made between the crops located in the rows and that which is located between them. For this reason, accurate steering of the agricultural machine has to follow a series of desired positions (15, 18). The driver lines up the agricultural machine with said series with the aid of a marker (25). Furthermore, according to the invention, actual direction of travel of the agricultural machine and not just actual position of the agricultural machine is involved in the determination of the steering corrections to be made.
