The invention relates to a method for storing and restoring data which is part of a program system (5, 6a, 7a) of a telecommunication installation and to the corresponding telecommunication installation (1). Before said telecommunication installation (1) begins to operate, data which is required for restoring the operational capacity of said program system is established from the bulk of data (7a) pertaining to the installation program system (5, 6a, 7a), whereby upon a backup of the installation program system only the data which has been predetermined as required for said backup of the installation program system is stored automatically on data media (11).
