A process is described for removing sodium oxalate from a sodium aluminate liquor produced through bauxite digestiol using the Bayer process. The novel sodium oxalate removal procedure comprises the steps of (a) continuously generating new and reactive seed particles of sodium oxalate by mixing together an aqueous solution of sodium oxalate and a portion of said Baye proccss sodium aluminate liquor to achieve a concentration of sodium oxalate within a range to generate spheroidal particles o sodium oxalate (b) adding a suspension of said spheroidal panicles of sodium oxalate as seed to a second portion of said Baye proccss sodium aluminate liquor, to thereby precipitate the remainder of dissolved sodium oxalate and (c) sepatining the sodiun oxalate precipitate, leaving a liquor of reduced sodium oxalate contamination. The spheroidal panicles are formed by controllin the concentration of sodium oxalate at a level about 5% to about 75% above autonucleation concentration.

Méthode pour éliminer l'oxalate de sodium dans une liqueur d'aluminate de sodium produite par digestion de bauxite utilisant le procédé Bayer. La nouvelle méthode d'élimination de l'oxalate de sodium comprend les étapes suivantes : a) production en continu de nouveaux germes particulaires réactifs d'oxalate de sodium, par mélange d'une solution aqueuse d'oxalate de sodium et d'une fraction de la liqueur d'aluminate de sodium du procédé Bayer, de façon à obtenir une concentration d'oxalate de sodium dans une plage où il y a formation de particules sphéroïdales d'oxalate de sodium; b) addition d'une suspension de ces particules comme germes à une seconde fraction de la liqueur d'aluminate de sodium du procédé Bayer, ce qui fait précipiter le reste de l'oxalate de sodium dissous; c) séparation du précipité d'oxalate de sodium, ce qui laisse une liqueur moins contaminée par cet oxalate. Les particules sphéroïdales sont formées en maintenant la concentration d'oxalate de sodium à une concentration supérieure d'environ 5 % à 75 % à la concentration d'autonucléation.
