METHOD FOR THE ELECTROCHEMICAL PROCESSING OF METAL SURFACES Abstract of the Disclosure The specification discloses a method for electro- chemically processing a metal surface of a workpiece wherein the workpiece is immersed in the electrolyte of an electrolytic cell but out of contact with the anode or cathode of the cell, and a current is passed through the cell. The electrolyte in the region of the cell contain- ing either the anode or cathode and the workpiece has electrically conductive material suspended therein for transporting charge to the surface being processed. The electrode of opposite polarity is separated from this region by a diaphragm which prevents the conductive material from contacting the electrode of opposite polarity. At least part of the conductive material is activated carbon powder heat treated to a temperature of at least 700°C in an inert atmosphere. The method can be used, for example, in the preparation of printed circuits.
