An improved method for affecting the immobilization of a synthetic nucleic acid molecule, such as an oligonucleotide, to a solid surface, especially polystyrene or glass. The method is useful in facilitating polymorphic analyses, in hybridization assays, and in solid-phase DNA sequencing.
