ABSTRACT A method for inhibiting the corrosion of copper or copper-bearing metals in contact with an aggressive aqueous environment by combining a copper corrosion inhibitor with a chelant. Azoles are employed as the corrosion inhibitor. Characteristic chelants include ethylenediamine tetracetic acid nitrilotriacetic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid and dialkyldithiocarbamates.
