ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method is provided for the operation of a first plant in which sulphur oxides are accepted from gases or gas mixtures on solid acceptors and subsequently released again by regeneration of the acceptors, in combination with a second plant for the conversion of sulphur dioxide; the first plant comprises at least two reactors which are alternately used for the acceptance of sulphur oxides and subsequent regeneration of the loaded acceptors, yielding a regeneration off-gas with varying sulphur dioxide con- tent; in order to obtain a constant or substantially constant sul- phur dioxide gas stream to the second plant for the conversion of sulphur dioxide, the regeneration off-gas, after cooling and re- moval of condensation water, is stored under pressure in a gas holder from which the sulphur dioxide is supplied to the second plant.
