METHOD FOR THE PREPARATION OF AROMATIC POLYESTERS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for preparing aromatic polyester comprising reacting carbon monoxide, a diol, and an aromatic trifluoromethane sulfonate reactant having the general formula Image , in the presence of solvent and a catalyst. Ar is selected from the group consisting of aromatic and heteroaromatic moieties having a total of ring carbons and heteroatoms of from 6 to about 30. The catalyst is a compound of a metal selected from the group consisting of platinum, palladium and nickel.
