ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: The invention relates to a method for the prepara- tion of UO2 powder, characterized in that it comprises the steps of (a) admixing with a uranium salt solution an organic stabilizing thickener selected in the group constituted by hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, polyvinyl alcohol and dextran (trademark); (b) extruding the resulting admixture to form a continuous fillet; (c) contacting said fillet with an ammoniated solution to form a strand of ammonium diuranate; (d) collecting said product; (e) calcining said product to convert it to a mixture of oxides or uranium, and (f) chemically reducing said mixture of oxides of uranium to obtain a uranium dioxide product. This method allows to overcome usual inconvenience occuring with actually known method.
