The present invention relates to water-borne thermoplastic polyhydroxyether resins having narrow polydispersity (M w/M n < 4.0 and 7,000 > M n > 12,000), and the use of such resins in water-borne coating compositions.
La présente invention consiste à préparer une dispersion à base aqueuse d'une résine polyhydroxyéther (phénoxy) thermoplastique par greffage d'un ou de plusieurs monomères éthyléniquement insaturés, possédant préférablement 3 à environ 8 atomes de carbone, sur un polyhydroxyéther thermoplastique à polydispersité étroite (Mw/Mn 4,0 et 7000 > Mn > 12,000). Il est souhaitable qu'au moins l'un de ces monomères contienne suffisamment de groupes carboxyle pour apporter environ 1 à 100 groupes carboxyle par 10 unités monomères de polyhydroxyéther thermoplastique. Ensuite, on mélange le polyhydroxyéther thermoplastique greffé résultant avec de l'eau et une base miscible avec de l'eau, afin d'obtenir une composition de revêtement utilisable.
