ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method is provided for the production of a hollow needle of round steel provided at the rear end with a shank for fitting which s thicker in diameter; which needle has a guide channel open at the rear end of the fitting shank and terminating radially in arcuate form before the needle point for at least approximately cylindrical cross-pins, provided with a filament, of fasteners for labels, buttons or the like which are to be secured to textiles or similar carrier materials, the guide channel being provided with a longitudinal slot the width of which is less than the width of the guide channel. For the production of the slotted guide channel by means of a side-milling cutter having a U-shaped sectional profile, a U-shaped longitudinal groove is milled from the rear shank end approximately to the needle section narrowing toward the point, which groove is wider in the fitting shank in the region lying outside the needle diameter than in the region lying within the needle diameter and has on both sides step-type marginal faces. Thereafter the marginal edges of the U-shaped longitudinal groove are stamped inwards by means of a stamping tool, leaving free a radial exit slot, situated in the vicinity of the point, which slot has the width of the longitudinal groove.
