The invention relates to a method for the production of a sulfonated poly(1,3,4-oxadiazole) polymer. The invention further relates to a sulfonated poly(1,3,4-oxadiazole) polymer, a membrane for fuel cells, a fuel cell and a method for the production of a fuel cell. The method according to the invention includes the following steps: - Production of a solution by mixing the hydrazine sulfate salt with one or more dicarboxylic acids or their derivatives in polyphosphoric acid, - Heating of the solution under an inert gas atmosphere, - Precipitation of the polymer in a basic solution.
