Artificial mineral fibres and cellulosic fibres are formed into a suspension in water. me suspension is dewatered and shaped into a sheet on a forming wire and the thus formed sheet is pressed and dried, Binding means is fed to the fibrous mat after the mat has been pre-dried to between 60 and 90% dry con- tent, whereafter final drying is carried out. The mat of the invention is particularly useful as a carrier and support for wall and floor coverings.
