ABSTRACT Quickly setting alpha-calcium sulfate-hemihydrate is produced from calcium sulfate-dihydrate by hydrothermal recrystallization, whereby at most 99% by weight of the used dihydrate is converted into alpha-calcium sulfate-hemihydrate and the dihydrate still contained is calcined to beta-calcium sulfate-hemihydrate, with the exception of 0.5% residue.
