ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process is disclosed for the catalytic oxidation of lupulones or materials containing lupulones in a liquid medium by means of oxygen or gases containing oxygen. The lupulone material is dissolved and/or sus- pended in a polar alkaline medium and reacted with the oxygen containing gas in contact with a catalyst selected from the group consisting of noble metals, oxides of transition metals, or mixtures of such oxides.
