The present invention is directed to a method for producing a modified ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (C) comprising reacting an ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer (A) with a monofunctional epoxy compound (B) having a molecular weight of not more than 500. The modified ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (C) obtained by the method has an ethylene content of 5 to 55 mol% and contains a specific structural unit (I) in an amount of 0.3 to 40 mol%. This can be produced by a method for producing the modified ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (C) which comprises melting and kneading an ethylene--vinyl alcohol copolymer (A) with a monofunctional epoxy compound (B) in an extruder. The modified ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (C) is superior to a unmodified ethylene--vinyl alcohol copolymer (A) in transparency, stretchability, flexibility and flexing resistance due to the specific structural unit (I) incorporated therein, and thus, can be used as a barrier material in various applications requiring the above performance capabilities.
La présente invention a trait à une méthode permettant de fabriquer un copolymère éthylène- alcool vinylique modifié (C), consistant à faire réagir un copolymère d'éthylène et l'alcool vinylique (A) avec un composé époxy monofonctionnel (B) de masse moléculaire d'au plus 500. Le copolymère éthylène-alcool vinylique modifié (C) obtenu grâce à cette méthode a une teneur en éthylène de 5 à 55 % en moles, et une teneur en une unité structurale particulière (I) de 0,3 à 40 % en moles. Ce produit peut être obtenu à l'aide d'une méthode de fabrication du copolymère éthylène-alcool vinylique modifié (C) consistant à faire fondre et à malaxer un copolymère d'éthylène et d'alcool vonylique (A) avec un composé époxy monofonctionnel (B) à l'aide d'une extrudeuse. Le copolymère éthylène-alcool vinylique modifié (C) est supérieur au copolymère d'éthylène et d'alcool vinylique non modifié (A) en transparence, en extensibilité, en souplesse et en résistance au pliage grâce à la présence d'une unité structurale particulière (I) qui lui est incorporée et il peut, par conséquent, être employé comme matériau-barrière dans diverses applications exigeant les caractéristiques de performance citées.
