Abstract The production of extruded polymeric film is hampered by the defect known as "die lines". In accordance with the present invention, the effect rather than the cause of the defect is removed, by passing the extruded film with its opposite faces in succession over two smooth cooling surfaces. The film faces which are brought into contact with the corresponding cooling surfaces are in a substantially molten condition and they are electrostatically pinned to said cooling surfaces.
