This invention refers to a method for the quantitative determination of the fissile material content in small size particles present in samples such as environmental samples. According to the invention, the "fission track process", known per se, is applied to said samples, according to which the samples are sandwiched in organic sheets and then submitted to a defined thermal neutron fluence whereupon fission products of the fissile material in the sample create in the sheets fission tracks which are rendered visible by etching the sheets. Then the size of selected particules having created such tracks is determined by means of an appropriate microscope and thereafter these visible tracks of said selected particules are compared to pre- established standard tracks obtained by the same process from particules of different stepped known size and enrichment ratio.
L'invention porte sur un procédé d'évaluation quantitative du contenu en matières fissiles de particules de petite taille présentes dans des échantillons, par exemple environnementaux. On applique à cet effet aux échantillons le "fission track process" déjà connu consistant à sandwicher dans des feuilles organiques lesdits échantillons puis à les soumettre à un flux défini de neutrons thermiques après quoi les produits de fission des matières fissiles contenues dans l'échantillon produisent des traces rendues visibles par décapage des feuilles. On détermine ensuite la taille des particules sélectionnées à l'origine de ces traces à l'aide d'un microscope approprié puis on compare les traces visibles à des traces préétalonnées obtenues par le même procédé à partir d'un échelonnement de différentes tailles de particules connues, et présentant un enrichissement connu.
