ABSTRACT A method for the recovery of heat from the flue gas of a furnace, especially of an oil or gas furnace, and for the purification of these gases, with a heating circuit connected with the furnace. Flue gases of the furnace are lead to the outside of the evaporator of a heat pump circulating a refrigerant, cooled to below the condensation point of all noxious substances contained in the flue gas and then given off into the atmosphere. The heat absorbed by the evaporator is given off directly into the heating circuit via the heat pump condenser which is in a heat exchange relationship with the heat- ing circuit.
