The invention relates to a method for treating the surface of roof racks for motor vehicles, which are made of aluminium and/or an aluminium alloy. According to the invention, the surface is first at least partially polished in order to achieve a lustre finish, the thus polished surface is then at least partially roughened in order to achieve a section of silky matter surface. The invention also relates to the corresponding roof rack.
