TITLE: NEW METHOD FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF 5-THIO-1,2,3-THIADIAZOLE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This disclosure describes a novel process for the synthesis of 5-mercapto-1,2,3-thiadiazoles which are useful as intermediates in the preparation of antibacterial agents. This process uses as a new intermediate a compound of the formula Image in which R1 is para toluene sulfonyl, carbamoyl or carboalkoxy, having from 2 to 4 carbon atoms; R2 is hydrogen or methyl and R3 is C1-C3 alkyl.
