A process for the manufacture of omeprazole from pyrmethyl alcohol via pyrmethyl chloride and pyrmetazole characterized in that the whole reaction sequence is carried out without any isolation or purification of intermediates. Further that the reaction is carried out in a main solvent system common for the whole reaction sequence and inert to the reactants formed during the process and used in the process. The process according to the present invention may also include an additional purification step. Omeprazole has the structure: (see above formula)

Procédé d'élaboration d'omeprazole à partir d'alcool pyrméthylique par l'intermédiaire de chlorure pyrméthylique et de pyrmétazole. Le procédé se caractérise par le fait que la séquence de réaction s'effectue dans son ensemble sans aucun isolement ni aucune purification des intermédiaires. La réaction s'effectue en outre dans un système solvant principal commun à la totalité de la séquence et inerte pour les réactifs se formant en cours d'opération et utilisés dans le cadre de ce procédé. Ce procédé peut également inclure une étape suppémentaire de purification.
