ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for the synthesis of speech with an unli- mited vocabulary and a circuit arrangement for carrying out the method is provided. The components used for the synthesis are not quite 100 sound elements (approximately 50 for transition sounds and about 40 for phonemes) which require 22 kBytes of memory space. Samples and/or values, determined by computer, in elements for voiced sounds can be omitted or used for changing the pitch without changing the character of a lowered or raised sound. In a preceding step orthographic text can be transcribed auto- matically into a phoneme string.
