According to current ITU standardization, voice information is integrated in ATM cells by means of the AAL1 adaptation method, which takes into account the special characteristics of voice information. Additional adaptation methods, for instance the AAL5 method, integrate and transmit other information data, but fail to take into account the specific requirements of voice information transmissions. In order to integrate and transmit voice information, also according to the AAL5 standard, the invention provides that the AAL1 header be incorporated into the AAL5 information section of an ATM cell.
