An improved method for sterilizing and washing contact lenses with aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution is disclosed, in which unspent hydrogen peroxide is decomposed by electrolysis, either simultaneously with or subsequent to soaking treatment of the contact lenses. This affords a relatively simple and safe method for the required decomposition of any hydrogen peroxide remaining in the treatment of contact lenses with that reagent.
