A method is described for disinfecting and deodorizing animal manures and other organic wastes to produce a pasteurized, granular product for use as a soil amendment. The solids content of the animal manure is raised to a predetermined level to create air-filled pore space, and the pH is raised sufficient to liberate endogenous gaseous ammonia in the air-filled pores for a predetermined time. The level of gaseous ammonia is sufficient to significantly destroy pathogens in the manure. An organic waste material is obtained (25), a bulking material is added to the organic waste material (30), solids content is added in an amount sufficient to raise the solids content to approximately 30 % (35), the pH is monitored and controlled to be approximately 9.5 or more (40), and the organic waste material is placed in an enclosed area to entrain the ammonia for a period of approximately 1 hour.
L'invention concerne un procédé pour désinfecter et désodoriser du fumier et d'autres déchets organiques afin de produire un produit granulaire pasteurisé destiné à l'amendement du sol. La part solide du fumier est soulevée à une hauteur prédéterminée pour créer un espace poreux rempli d'air. Le pH augmente à un niveau suffisant pour libérer l'ammoniac gazeux endogène dans les pores remplies d'air, pendant un temps prédéterminé. La teneur en ammoniac gazeux est suffisante pour détruire sensiblement les pathogènes contenus dans le fumier. On obtient une substance à base de déchets organiques (25), on y ajoute des substances de gonflement (30), on ajoute des solides en quantités suffisantes pour augmenter la teneur en solides jusqu'à environ 30 % (35), on surveille le pH pour le maintenir à environ 9,5 ou plus (40) et l'on place la substance à base de déchets organiques pour entraîner l'ammoniac pendant à peu près une heure.
