A method for treating an individual with diseased prostatic tissue, such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, includes inserting a catheter (28) into a urethra (10) to position a microwave antenna (74) located within the catheter (28) adjacent a prostatic region of the urethra (10). A microwave antenna (74) is then driven within a power range for applying microwave energy substantially continuously to prostatic tissue (96) to heat the prostatic tissue (96) surrounding the microwave antenna (74) at a temperature and for a time period sufficient to cause necrosis of the prostatic tissue (96).
Ce procédé de traitement d'un individu présentant un tissu prostatique malade, comme dans l'hyperplasie prostatique bénigne, consiste à introduire un cathéter (28) dans l'urètre (10), afin de positionner, à proximité d'une région prostatique de l'urètre (10), une antenne (74) hyperfréquence placée dans le cathéter (28). Cette antenne (74) est ensuite excitée dans une plage de puissance donnée, afin d'appliquer une énergie hyperfréquence sensiblement continue sur le tissu prostatique (96) et porter, pendant une certaine durée, le tissu (96) qui entoure l'antenne (74) à une certaine température, la température et la durée devant être suffisantes pour provoquer la nécrose du tissu prostatique (96).
