A NOVEL METHOD FOR TREATING INTRAVENOUS IMMUNE GLOBULIN ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A lyophilized preparation of intravenous immune globulin is heated at any one of various temperatures for any one of various times. After lyophilization and heating, the preparation is reconstituted with sterile diluent before use in a human patient. Heat treatment substantially inactivates any AIDS-causing or hepatitis-causing viruses which may be present in the intravenous immune globulin, without destroying protein activity. It is also possible that substances produced by this process, with optimal selection of parameters, are actually immunogenic.
