Provides are improved methods for storing platelets and compositions that contain stored platelets for use in transfusions. The method entails obtaining a platelet concentrate from blood obtained from an individual and holding the platelet concentrate in at refrigerated temperatures under an atmosphere having a pressure of from 3.5 to 5 bars comprising more than 65% xenon and for at least one week. Also provided is a refrigerated composition that contains a platelet concentrate, wherein the platelet concentrate contains xenon, and wherein the platelet concentrate has been isolated from an individual for at least seven days.

La présente invention concerne des procédés améliorés de stockage des plaquettes, ainsi que des compositions contenant des plaquettes stockées, utilisables dans les transfusions. Ce procédé implique de se procurer un concentré de plaquettes à partir de sang prélevé sur un individu et de conserver ledit concentré de plaquettes à basse température et sous une atmosphère comprenant plus de 65 % de xénon à une pression de 3,5 à 5 bars, pendant au moins une semaine. La présente invention concerne également une composition réfrigérée contenant un concentré de plaquettes, ledit concentré de plaquettes contenant du xénon et ayant été isolé après prélèvement sur un individu depuis au moins sept jours.
