ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Mutagenic substances in solutions, especially those having a planar structure with not less than 3 fused rings, are selectively adsorbed by specific solid adsorbents bearing covalently bound phthalocya- nine derivatives. The adsorbants are prepared by first optionally making phthalocyanine reactive by introducing a reactive terminal group. Then, that phthalocyanine compound is reacted with an organic solid material. The organic solid material can be, for instance, cotton or cellulose powder. Such reactive phthalocyanines are commercially available as phthalocyanine reactive dyes.
