Abstract of the Invention Two or more pumps operating in parallel, and conducting effluent via parallel conduits, have a shunt line interconnecting the conduits, and the shunt line is interposed by pair of valves. Each valve permits flow therethrough in one direction which is opposite the flow-permitting direction of the other, but are oper- ative to permit flow therethrough in both directions. By opening one valve to bi-directional flow, and operating a complementary one of the pumps, shunted effluent conducts through the valves and down through the other pump or pumps to dislodge objects which clog the inlet(s) thereof.
