The invention relates to a method for upgrading the operation of a wood strander, especially a roundwood strander, said apparatus comprising a rotatable housing element (1), provided with stranding tools (2) which are spaced apart from each other and arranged in such a way that the tools (2) have cutting edges (3) thereof positioned on a substantially common surface (4) which is distanced by a radius (r) from an axis of rotation (14) of the housing element (1), a feeding means for delivering wood or timber (6) to the strander in a direction substantially parallel to said axis of rotation (14), and means (5) for achieving a relative feeding action between the timber (6) and the stranding tools (2). In a method of the invention, there are provided at least two feeding points (7, 8) for delivering the timber (6) into a strander in such a manner that the timber (6) coming from the first feeding point (7) and the second feeding point (8) is fed alternately into a strander over a distance which depends on the strander, and the feeding points (7, 8) are selected in such a way that, in the first direction of a relative feeding action between the timber (6) and the stranding tools (2), the strander works on the timber (6) delivered from the first feeding point (7) and in the second direction on the timber (6) delivered from the second feeding point (8).
