A method to prepare new polymorphs of materials which have not been observed or to obtain a known polymorph under different conditions than those in which it is usually made by using a laser to cause nucleation and crystal growth to occur in a supersaturated solution in such a way as to obtain a crystal structure which would not normally appear without the use of the laser. For example, laser light can cause spontaneous nucleation of gamma-glycine crystals from a supersaturated aqueous solution.

Cette invention se rapporte à un procédé permettant de préparer de nouveaux polymorphismes de matériaux non encore observés ou d'obtenir un nouveau polymorphisme dans des conditions différentes de celles dans lesquelles il est habituellement obtenu, en utilisant un laser grâce auquel un phénomène de nucléation et de croissance cristalline se produit dans une solution sursaturée, de façon à engendrer une structure cristalline qui normalement n'apparaîtrait pas sans l'utilisation du laser. La lumière laser peut par exemple entraîner une nucléation spontanée de cristaux de gamma-glycine à partir d'une solution aqueuse sursaturée.
