A method for verifying the authenticity of a sales record. A printer ribbon with an ink applied thereto is provided, the ink having a first color and being capable of changing to a second color when acted upon by a reagent. The printer ribbon is utilized to print sales records, with the authenticity of said sales records being verified by exposing the sales records to a reagent capable of causing the ink to change to a second color identifiably distinct from the first color.
