A method of accurately locating a sub-pixel maximum on a two-dimensional grid (100) having an x axis and a y axis is provided. The method, which is suitable for locating a sub-pixel maximum, which falls at intermediate (200) grid points, begins identifying a grid point having a maximum grid point value (300). Then, a quadrangle containing a sub-pixel maximum is determined by locating neighboring grid points along the x and y axes (400), which have the greatest grid point values. Next, four one-dimensional, fractional maxima are computed along each side of a quadrangle. Next, two lines connecting one-dimensional maxima along the opposite sides of the quadrangle are computed. Finally, a location for the sub-pixel maximum is calculated where the two computed lines intersect (500).

L'invention porte sur une méthode permettant de localiser avec précision un maximum de sous-pixel sur une grille en 2D (100) présentant un axe des X et un axe des Y. Ladite méthode, qui permet de localiser un maximum de sous-pixel correspondant à des points intermédiaires de grille (200), commence par localiser un point de la grille présentant une valeur maximale de point de grille (300), puis définit un quadrilatère contenant un maximum de sous-pixel en localisant les points voisins le long des axes des X et des Y (400) présentant les valeurs de point de grille les plus élevées, puis calcule quatre maxima fractionnels à une dimension le long de chaque côté des côtés opposés du quadrilatère, puis enfin calcule la position du maximum de sous-pixel à l'intersection (500) des deux lignes calculées.
