A METHOD OF ACOUSTIC WELL LOGGING ABSTRACT In an acoustic well logging method, a borehole 12 is traversed with a well logging tool 10 including an acoustic transmitter 17 of the bender-type having unrestricted piezoelectric planar surfaces oriented parallel with the longitudinal axis of said tool and exposed to a coupling liquid. The transmitter 17 is excited with a plurality of sine wave tone bursts of fixed frequency from a generator which drive the transmitter to resonate and thereby generate acoustic waves having a dominant mode of vibration.
