A method of aligning hinge assemblies. Each hinge assembly includes a body having at least one hinge pin hole, a closure having at least one hinge pin hole and a hinge pin. A first step involves mounting the closure in a desired alignment on the body without the use of hinge pins. A second step involves machining the hinge pin holes on the body and the hinge pin holes on the closure, as required, to make them round. A third step involves coating the hinge pin holes on the body and the hinge pin holes on the closure with a wear enhancing coating until smaller than required tolerances with the closure in the desired alignment on the body. A fourth step involves machining the hinge pin holes on the body and the hinge pin holes on the closure to precise tolerances with the closure in the desired alignment on the body.
