ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE The coal gas produced by coal gasification in a ferrous- bath-reactor carries large amounts of dust with it. In order to allow this gas being fed into mains systems, particularly into public gas mains, it must be cleaned to reduce the dust content, It must be remembered that the coal gas leaves the ferrous-bath-reactor at a temperature of about 1400°C. With a view to achieving an economical and simple dust removal from the gas the applicants propose to cool the hot dust-laden coal gas in a first cooling stage to a temperature of preferably 300 C, cleaning it subsequently at this temperature in a first electro-filter, then cooling it in a second cooling stage to a temperature of 50°C for preference and finally to purify it at this temperature in a second electro-filter. Apparatus suitable for implementing this method is shown and described in drawing and specific description.
