Turbulence is controlled in boundary layer or wall-bounded fluid flow fields having a turbulent wall region which under natural conditions, has an average system of roll pairs or streaks adjacent the surface, and extending in the direction of flow, by locally introducing into the turbulent wall region, by passive means, a disturbance that enhances or inhibits the roll pairs thereby locally increasing or decreasing the turbulence in the flow field.

L'invention est une méthode de contrôle de la turbulence dans les couches limites ou dans les écoulements fluides limités par une paroi où une région de turbulence au voisinage de la paroi comporte, dans des conditions normales, des traînées près de la surface dans le sens de l'écoulement. La méthode de l'invention consiste à introduire dans cette région de turbulence, par des moyens passifs, une perturbation qui intensifie ou atténue ces traînées, ce qui accroît ou réduit la turbulence dans l'écoulement.
