Abstract A method and apparatus are described for continuously debossing and perforating a running ribbon of thermoplastic film. The apparatus includes a debossing-perforating cylinder comprising a thin-wall, tubular-shape perforated tubular member of metal which wall is perforated by an array of radially inwardly tapered apertures. The thermo- plastic film moves onto the tubular member where heat and vacuum are applied to deboss and perforate the film, after which the film is cooled while maintaining virtually no tension and then the cooled film removed from the tubular member under a predetermined tension.
